An example of 养 yǎng

什么女孩都养不起。 Shénme nǚhái dōu yǎng bu qǐ.  I cannot afford to support any female

again, one can not use 赞 zàn in this pattern, as it has no correlation to money.  take a look at when you google these three words together:

Results 1 - 10 of about 2,040,000 for “养不起”.

Results 1 - 4 of 4 for “赞不起”

the first thing that comes up on “赞不起” is Artkho's first post....

yuehe,

zàn means: approve of;  praise.  You can (zàn) someone who studies chinese by saying their chinese is really good, they are so smart, ect...

It doesn't have a monetary quality.

yǎng on the otherhand does.  This means to support financially, or raise something (baby, pets) which obviously requires money.

我养不起Amber. Wǒ yǎng bùqǐ Amber I cant afford to take care of Amber. (this can insinuate her high-end tastes, or my just inability to pay for things)

Azul,

the "ling" 零 (zero) here emphasises that it has never been done before. Its often used in sports, and is a set phrase for this kind of accomplishment.

All,

PDF's arent likely.  Not to get into boring IT details, but the platform that QW is set up on is not the same as the regular lessons.  That equals no PDF's.

lunetta,

I can afford to drink coffee, but i cant afford a beat down from poppa roup.  Although he is getting old, i can probably take him now.

light,

if the ladies want a compliment, they get one.  who can argue with amber and connie?

sushan,

高级 gao1ji2 is correct. this is one of ambers favorite words, and is most likely used by her in every edition of QW.

trevlu,

it may make a comeback....

standuke,

no comment.

johns,

This is the same thing i posted on what appears to be the same questin that was on the 又。。。又。。。 episode..

Using the 又。。。又。。。 sentence pattern is generally used to assosiate two similiar qualities (adjectives) to one person or thing.  Verbs are used, but less frequent.

cheap and dirty

smart and sexy

rich and famous  ect....

一边。。。一边。。。 is the act of doing two actions simotaneously.

talking and walking

watch tv and eat dinner ect...

...哭 ...闹 can be used in both patterns. It can be also used in the 又。。。又。。。 because they are very similiar actions. (crying and making noise)

Yeah, Tiān'ānmén is a sight to see. I just went there a couple months back. Oh, also...Lets keep this one clean and relevant today folks.  Something tells me someone may feel the urge to get off topic.  If you agenda is outside of an educational one, please refrain from posting. Cheers.

artkho, artkho, artkho,

listen again.  you cant 赞 (zàn) deqǐ something, because to zàn [to praise] someone doesn't cost anything.

think money...

money, money, money

Verb + 不起(buqǐ)  = can‘t afford to do that verb

Verb + 得起(deqǐ)  = can afford to do that verb

give me another one artkho。。。

to our knowledge this only occurs in Internet Explorer 6, and the way to get around this problem is to add a ".mp3" at the end of the saved file.  For some reason, that version of the browser leaves it off.

holler back if that doesnt work for you.
