November 30, 2007 at 3:24 AMI highly recommend understanding these terms, but here is a tip. When you get fouled, yell "foul", and not fan4gui1. They will understand you, trust me. You just come across much more serious. If you get your tone off, they will giggle at you, and no one wants to get giggled at on the basketball court. And when they call foul on you when you block the ball clean in to the next court, just go and grab it, take it to the top of the key and shake your head when they repeat fangui over and over wanting the ball.

November 30, 2007 at 3:13 AMgregmcgrath, In China they have there own words for all things basketball. Its not like Japanese when a homerun is a "homuran". Here you go: shoot or shot 投篮 tou2lan2 rebound 篮板球 lan2ban3qiu3 free throw 罚球 fa2qiu2 foul 犯规 fan4gui1 3-pointer 3分球 3fen1qiu2 pass 传球 chuan2qiu2 block 封阻 feng1zu3 dribble 运球 yun4qiu2 between the legs dribble:跨下运球 kua4xia4yun4qiu2 assist 助攻 zhu4gong1 score 得分 de2fen1 layup 带球上篮 dai4qiu2shang4lan2 slam dunk 强力灌篮 qiang2li4guan4lan2 bank shot 擦板球 ca1ban3qiu2

November 30, 2007 at 2:32 AMsparechange, you could use 的 (de) actually, but it is not needed as its obvious the zipper belongs to the pants. Its kinda like when you say 我家 ”wǒjiā", you could say 我的家 (wǒdejiā), but it is not necessary.

November 28, 2007 at 7:21 AMRJBerki not sure what you would call my 'du in english, nonetheless in chinese. I just went into a joint behind my place, sat down in the chair, and grabbed the electric shears and dialed in the length (1.6 mm if i recall). i told em to give it a go all the way around, as the beard was a bit long, so the hair and beard at now at the same length, albeit a short length. What one would call that is beyond me...
