Expansion sentece #3, translation problem. You can't say "It's much cooler now than before since it rained." You can say instead
"It's much cooler now since it rained"
or ""It's much cooler now than before it rained"
or even ""It's much cooler now that it's rained"
but not "than before since".

I'm never seen pinyin explained this way before, and it is very interesting. In American text books, it is invariably presented simply as a matter of transliteration, without ever mentioning 声母 and 韵母 and usually without showing the non-Roman symbols for the syllables.
