July 12, 2010 at 2:15 AMWow, that's a lot. I read somewhere that Chinese people only use about 4000 - 5000 characters, although there are about 50000 characters total. So, you're 1/4 of the way there!

老人 doesn't sound macho either, haha. It means "old people". Maybe other people would find it macho, but that seems pretty silly to me.

July 8, 2010 at 3:04 AMGetting a BM in guitar from Cornerstone. I actually considered Oberlin, but I didn't want to study jazz or classical guitar. Haha, at least you didn't need a degree to do sustainability consulting. That actually sounds like a pretty well off job.
What kind of stuff do you play nowadays? Do you play in a symphony?

Soy bean is also called 黄豆 huang2 dou4
青椒 qing1 jiao1: green bell pepper
红葱头 hong2 cong1 tou2: shallot
