It's funny that to play ice hockey is called da3 bing1 qiu2 (play ice ball) in chinese. The puck isn't very much a ball, right? I wonder what word is then left over for bandy?

Hi chris,

I don't have good answers to you questions but noticed some small things that might help.
借 jiè to lend / to borrow
借给 jiè gěi to lend to somebody
The same seems to be valid for huan:
还 huán to pay back / to return
还给 huán gěi to return something to somebody
source
So it seems that we need the gěi if the sentence has two pronouns: "A return something to B" would require huán gěi.
I'm not sure about this though. It is just my conclusion from reading the sentences.

Thanks, I will try that. I guess my mistake is to paste stuff from websites into chinesepod, then cut and paste it into an unformatting text editor (when I realise about the links and formatting problem) and finally paste it back inte chinesepod. But then the chinesepod text editor has already gone crazy from the first pasting and creates a mess. Let's hope your way will bring success :)
