That sounds hopeful. I'll probably never get to China (although I hope as an old lady I might find enough courage to go to the language institute) but the people I know from China have told me numerous times about how many smoke over there.

It's a very, very small discrepancy, but the "le" is missing from this expansion sentence mp3.

继续伪装但是狐狸尾巴出来谎言已经揭穿
(She wanted to remain disguised, but she gave herself away and now her lie has already been exposed.)

I totally cannot handle these advanced lessons, but the vocabulary lists are often irresistable!

I love the "ordering food" lessons. Keep them coming!

现在的独生子女娇生惯养一点儿也吃不了

獨生子女嬌生慣養一點兒也吃不了

There's a slight discrepency between the simplified and traditional in the Expansion sentence.

I thought smoking was a big problem there.

I'd suppose that "demands" (要求) could also be translated "requirements"?

Are non-smoking apartments available in China?

gege, I think that others will have a better method, but since I am online right now I will tell you mine. I found this program Pinyinput when I first started studying Chinese. All you do is download it and install it, and if you have Chinese language installed on your computer, it will show up as an option in the language bar.

Just do a search for Pinyinput. It is free and straightforward - if the other methods you may learn about on this forum don't work for you. I'd find the link but my own PC is messed up right now and doesn't display Chinese in search results.

To add a note from my own personal experience, I learned to type Chinese right from my very first CHI 101 class, and it has been invaluable in reinforcing the tones, which are so easy to forget in my situation where I don't have speaking/conversational practice. (I just study with books and computer now.) If you don't type the right tone, you don't get the right character as an option.

From the expansion sentences:

河水污染
The water in the river has been polluted. All of the fish have died.

would this also be correct, with the same meaning?

河水污染

是用有机蔬菜做的

I assume (after looking it up in my Chinese Grammar book) that "用" here is used as a preposition?

made WITH organic vegetables?

so, as far as this pattern goes - 是 什么 什么 的 - if anyone can provide more examplea I'd appreciate it.  Could this pattern be used for things like:

made with surgical grade steel

made with non-bpa plastic

made with what? (Would you ask "这些是什么的?")

I'm pretty much learning on my own with books and CPod, still a beginner, thus the question which might seem a bit elementary to you all. I've never with knowledge used yong4 as a prepostion.

As for the topic of this lesson, it's very good for me! I do have a farm but not yet growing anything on it. Anything country, countryside, produce and farm animal oriented captures my immidiate attention. :)
