October 27, 2007 at 6:59 AMAs I indicated elsewhere, what is missing in both the dictionary and the ChinePod vocab is measure words, which should be systematically listed and learned with nouns.

October 26, 2007 at 7:06 AM不知道知识产权的情况, 但精彩的! 最近来上海的时候我买了打折《那乇传奇》 (The Legend of Nezha) 的连环画,CCTV 52集的动画系列,只买10册,图画很类似那个《三国演义》下载的。 反正,《西游记》那种的连环画有没有? 今天上课我们修习那篇课文,我很想找到简单的漫画。

October 26, 2007 at 6:50 AMnot surprisingly, wikipedia has a chapter on Chinatowns, the Chinese version is very short but has the names of cities (with streets) in NA, Asia and Europe

October 25, 2007 at 8:05 PManyway I agree, speaking Chinese every day goes a long way, even if it's only for a little while. I often exchange emails with Vera after the lesson, e.g. yesterday we had Elections as a topic and I explained the details of the French political system with general, local, regional, MP, Euro MP elections, mandates, issues etc. A little too demanding on the fly by phone without scripting the answers (which I never do, I only prepare vocab, although I add my own)

October 25, 2007 at 7:57 PMwei1xiao4, . I do half intermediate and half upper intermediate. at first I was the same, I also wondered, what can I *say* in 10 minutes? Now I actually have closer to 15 minutes (4 times a week) and they could easily become 20. There are days where things flow easily, depending on Vera's questions, the topic, my mood, quality of the connection etc. But these 15 minutes require, uh, an increasing amount of time, I spend at least 1h30 of direct preparation, often over 2 hours. And clearly, to plageriaze the GIGO cliché (garbage-in garbage out), it's WIWO (work in, work out), the more I put in, the more I get out. Tomorrow's is a review of the Monkey King and I'm putting in lots of effort into this rich topic, so I'll go prepare now -nighttime here, and I get my lessons before going to work in the morning. But I'll expand some more on how I prepare and we can exchange notes if you want.

October 25, 2007 at 11:55 AMsueh, beyond shock and delight, I find that explaining with whom / how I take conversation lessons does not seem to register - and that question always comes up
