In English, saying "how pitiful she is," as I did above, can sound condescending and uncaring. Does it sound that way in Chinese?

I must agree that the Chinese sounds are better approximations than our English standbys! I suppose "cock-a-doodle-doo" is our most innacurate one (maybe someone can think of a less accurate one), but, it sure is fun to read it that way in children's story books!
With a children's story book education, my little nephew growing up on Long Island will never recognize a real rooster's call!
