Connie, what methods do you use to keep rent from going up?

My rent skyrocketed this past year, but it's still quite reasonable for where I live (right downtown) and the excellent condition of the apartment. I'd be willing to pay more than what the market requires, simply to avoid moving, but please don't let my landlady know!

I wanted to use the phrase "You can lead an ox to water, but you can't push his head down to make him drink" yesterday, but I forgot how to say it. Fearing that translating directly from English into Chinese might draw puzzled looks, I came back here to listen again.

Is it "老牛不喝水，不能强按头"？

Thanks! A friend of mine suggested translating it as "Love me with all my warts" instead of "Love me, love my cat".

Do you guys think that's right?

First time I've heard most of these sayings...awesome! I especially like the one "Love the house, love the crow."

I'm so excited about my new premium subscription, and I was very pleased with myself for studying all the vocab and grammar related to this new lesson...until I took the test and lost a point for dictation where I had typed "老马" when I should have typed "老妈"! So many years of study, and I still write "old horse" instead of "mom"! 

Anyway, it brought a chuckle to my day.

我听说中国政府现在考虑的"Samaritan law"是为了惩罚不帮助人的人。我恐怕那样的法律也可能不太好；可能最好的方法是用法律来保护去帮助人的。可能不应该再去惩罚不给帮助的人。
