I'm from New Jersey. That totally doesn't seem fair. What about some one without a driver's license who bikes on the sidewalk? Crazy. And how would someone from another city be aware of this rule? And three points? Yikes!

Anyway, I think bicyclists getting fined is highly unlikely in China - I've never known/heard of it happening. Although, you may get yelled at for having passengers riding on your bike rack, in the busy parts of some cities.

Two of my first grade students go crazy with this dance after every class. They're pretty cute, and awfully loud, which isn't convenient when I'm trying to help other students catch up on homework, but they're having so much fun I can never bring myself to ask them to stop.

"Good job, Tommy, now let's do number 2..."

"GANGNAM STYLE, SEXY LADY, LA LA LA LA..."

And thank you, Ju Jiaojie, for the revisions and explanations you made (in the copy only I can see, under the "task" tab).

Thanks!

So, I clicked on the above link, and it actually shares the assignment as it was before I turned it in, ie. without the revisions the Lu Jiaojie made.

There is no way for me to make changes to that original, so, if any of you check it out, don't take stock in any of the grammar patterns you see, and definitely don't take my phrasing to be accurate! :)

I do enjoy the challenge of the tasks presented by Chinese Pod, and I love the free one-on-one attention provided by the teachers! (I understand that this will end with the end of this month, but I'll keep enjoying it while I can; thanks, teachers!)

I'm confused. If 抓 can mean "caught", then why did the guy in the dialogue say he hadn't gotten caught by the police? He did, in fact, get caught, and had points added to his license.

Maybe it's because the traffic police who gave him the ticket aren't called "police" in China?

I love to bike too. My first six years in China, I biked everywhere, all the time. But over time, the number of privately owned vehicles increased drastically, and electric bikes became extremely popular. The roads now tend to be very crowded, with traffic rules not yet enforced, and the new silent (you can't hear them approaching) but fast electric bikes everywhere. Everyone just kind of maneuvers into wherever they are trying to go. It works, and no-one is actually traveling at very high speeds, but there are often minor accidents. Since no-one's really going very fast, car passengers tend to be pretty safe; the collisions don't hurt them. It's the electric bike riders, regular bike riders, and walkers who get hurt in these accidents.

Of course, every country has it's share of car accidents. In my country, America, people in cars are just as unsafe as everybody else, because we drive at such high speeds that almost any accident can result in the death of passengers.
