January 12, 2013 at 2:46 AM今天租车,司机的电话响了,他一直没接,新规则好像有效果!(不过,他还是用往左道(turning lane )为了过上别的车,红绿灯给绿,就快速胜过别的车!)

January 12, 2013 at 2:36 AMHi, judycarruth, I just want to get my two cents in here, so that the teachers know the opinions out here are varied.
I like the balance David and Tom struck. I found the banter pleasant, and enjoyed the manner in which Tom clarified things. Also, what Tom says about culture resonates with me (seeing as I'm also a foreigner learning to understand and love a culture different from my own). I don't think learning is a one-way street where the teacher imparts and the student soaks the info up. It's interactive, and includes relating new information to our own emotions and experiences.
I honestly would rate this as my favorite BST so far (as I commented above).

January 11, 2013 at 12:20 AMHey, RJ, Grambers is relating this thread to my arguments on another recent thread (the media lesson on the gun control issue in America), and so the point you thought he's making isn't actually what he's trying to say! :)
My point on the other thread is that citizens shouldn't be denied guns because that leaves all power in the hands of a few, and that those few can't be trusted to hold all the weapons and remain forever pure and well-intentioned.
So, he's actually pointing out that I'm being contradictory, in suggesting that people are both inherently bad (power corrupts) and inherently good (can generally be trusted to leave fair tips).
It's quite an interesting connection, actually, for him to have made across threads, and I'm momentarily at a loss as to a rebuttal!

January 10, 2013 at 11:24 AMI agree with you。 I suspect maybe the original translator made a slight error.
Maybe a teacher could verify that we are right?

January 10, 2013 at 5:20 AMI just saw this post, and wanted to add my voice to yours. I too continue to renew my subscription again and again. I think I'm going on about 6 years now. (I used a different name and avatar the first three years, then resubscribed under a new name and avatar these past three years.) I have come a long way, and I love that Chinese Pod has made so much of the learning process more than pleasurable, they've made it fun.

January 10, 2013 at 4:43 AMI want to say yes, floalvarez, but this month I'm particularly busy. In the future, on another media lesson, I hope I'll be able to help.

January 10, 2013 at 4:33 AMGot it Grambers, thanks! The "而不都是" makes sense now!
And, also, he2xu4, thanks for finding the article itself. That's awesome!

January 12, 2013 at 11:53 PMI'll add that more people die from drivers who text while driving or who are drunk while driving than from guns each year, in the USA. But we don't discuss taking cars away from the common people, even though some of them repeatedly use cars in an unconscionable manner (while drunk or texting), leading to a horrific number of preventable deaths.
