Isn't there Amazon Instant Video, iTunes or Netflix in China? Those are definitely legal. But I don't know whether the selection is any good or if it's expensive or not.

There are two ways you watch video - you watch a downloaded version or you stream it. These two methods are different. I think you stream Youku, you don't download it. If you download a video, you end up with a big file. When you watch Youku, you don't end up with a big file (at least explicitly).

For the person in the dialogue - Microsoft is dropping support for XP in 2014. Better to go with Windows 7. XP is 13 years old for goodness sake. That's like forever in technology years.

Don't know, but the default keyboard that comes with the Surface is awful. You have to have Hulk powered fingers. If you get the Surface, spend a little more and get the pro keyboard.

Yeah, I noticed, based on my experience with people who are well off, that either they tip pret-ty darn good, or god awful bad.

And I agree with your servers observation. I've worked in tip dependent jobs before and because of that, I try to tip as much as I can.

2.5% tip? On expense? Jeez. People... sometimes they just suck. I can understand if they're trying to come in under a limit, but just order a little less to leave room for a tip. It won't kill you.

The confusion on tipping in the US is to whom and how much, but you can just look it up on the internet, so there is no excuse. Tips included in the bill in China - how much does the staff get? Is it the case that the waiters always receive it? When I leave a cash tip, I know it's going directly to the waiter.

If you don't tip and keep coming back to the same place, you're going to wait and wait and get bad service and who knows who will do what to your food.

Leaving a tip up front sounds like a good idea at first, but Americans, sorry my fellow citizens, many suck at even basic arithmetic and sometimes you might order more drinks, more dessert, so that changes the tip amount.

One person does not make for a representative sample space, but I've read the blog, although only for the first few years, and it seems to mesh with my experiences.

As for the stereotype, I'm an ABC and have always tipped the standard 15-20%, 25% if the service is very good. I occasionally get surprised looks when the receiver sees how much I tipped so I guess there is still some work to do to undo the stereotype.
