I thought these were really interesting, and somewhat humourous statues before I listened to the podcast. After I listened....I was much less interested in the statues. I guess I really haven't adopted a Chinese style sense of humor at all. I enjoy humor, but I didn't see the humor in these statues from the Chinese perspective

I'm curious about this word 姥爷 lǎoyé, meaning "grandfather". Why is the first character 姥 ？Doesn't this mean "grandmother" ? It has the 女nǚ radical, which makes it even stranger. Can someone please speak on this, and also about where in China this word is used, as opposed to other words such as 爷爷yéye or 外公wàigōng  ?

how do we say "younger brother's wife"? I know that "older brother's wife" is
嫂子 sǎo zi, and if I'm not mistaken she has the highest status among the women of her generation, but I don't know how to say "younger brother's wife". 

Also, if there are lots of brothers involved, what are the various terms of address for their respective wives? I think it involves numbers like 1,2,3
