June 20, 2008 at 9:19 AMAt the risk of being too blunt and offensive, I think premarital sex is very common in the big cities of China. The frequency seems to vary most dramatically with the attractiveness of the girl and the financial independence of the guy.

June 18, 2008 at 2:50 AMThe term 坐坐 was new to me. I assume that it is a term used to more casually say "come sit with me". Doubled verbs and nouns in Chinese are always interesting but I don't know if there is a general rule as to when words can be doubled up and what the new meaning is.

June 13, 2008 at 2:49 AMI will go to one of the good 点心 's here in Houston, Texas this Sunday. I really enjoy these Hungry Traveler lessons. Like Ken, i cannot get a handle on the chicken feet. They served duck feet webbing with Peking Duck in Beijing with mustard sauce and a spicy version in Chengdu but, well, hmmmm. In Senzen, we were served pigs ears and the tail in various sauces. I wandered what happened to the parts in between.
Thank you so much for another fun, interesting and educational lesson. You guys are great!

June 22, 2008 at 5:41 AMThis stuff is always in the hotel rooms. I will have it if I don't want to go out...not so bad and better than candy or chips. Useful lesson as usual. I liked the speed in which they talked. The guy ordering the noodles sounds just like my friend in Wuhan.
