最常见的就是：大慈大悲的菩萨
“同情”是动词，就是看到别人的遭遇，好像自己也有同感，在感情上引起共鸣。比如：
我很同情那些失业的中年人。

so you can say:
你多长时间没吃牛肉？
We use “多长、多大、多重、多高、多远” 等等 in question sentences.
For examples:
这条路多长？ (How long is this road?)
Zhè tiáo lù duō cháng？
你多大了？ ( How old are you?)
Nǐ duōdà le？
你多高？(How tall are you?)
Nǐ duō gāo？
从这儿到那儿有多远？(How far is it from here to there?)
Cóng zhèr dào nàr yǒu duōyuǎn？

You are right. For :你午饭吃了什么？（what did you have for lunch? ）， the short answer： 我吃了鱼 is OK.
Generally, verb+了+simple object is incomplete. For making a statement, we usually say:
他打了一个电话。
我游了两个小时泳。
