September 26, 2009 at 1:31 PMYes, I have seen a few cat fights here in China. And my wife (chinese) says how "unchinese" it is, inappropiate. Funny enough, mostly in Shanghai when I loved there for almost a year. I have seen some elsewhere, bit without as much passion as Shanghai (something in the water/DNA?).
I have seen a few times with men as well. they can be louder.
Anyway, can we have more swear words?
Oh, and a dialogue perhaps with a foreigner involved ? I had an altercation with a woman from outside of Beijing once. she stole my taxi, aggressively, was rude to me, and then shoved my wife while threatening us with "underworld connections".

September 18, 2009 at 4:58 AMThe story highlights why my (Chinese) wife won't buy iKea, here in China. We bought something once from the Beijing store, something for DVD/ books I think. After my brilliant handyman skills, it resembled the item our 2 speakers out together.
BUT I used a screwdriver! She says I must stick to teaching, and besides, chinese furniture is both cheaper and put together by people who actually know what they're doing......... (We are still married).

September 9, 2009 at 8:22 AMGreat lesson. Fantastic that you are "educating" the chinese, with the Trek.
I hope this is the beginning of a great series.

September 8, 2009 at 9:26 AMYeah, @sydcarten. Jenny? Are you listening? & whoever else has input into lessons.
Dr Who?....... YiSheng shui (?) hmmmmm, maybe not. Or Lao Yisheng? (Sorry, my pinyin is terrible at times).
Actually, the idea of a Dr Who meets Jurassic Park appeals to me!

September 7, 2009 at 7:54 AMI thoroughly enjoyed this cast. Even found the ending funny, though in a way, predictable. I can envision the faces of the 2 people in the story. Can we turn this into a series, like "Lao Wang"?

August 30, 2009 at 9:20 AM@bodawei,
Yes, my question was a little vague, but another person supported her claim. I didn't belive that that same character for potato could be used for peanut.

August 28, 2009 at 11:42 PM@ Jennyy, from jennyzhu says

How can potato and peanuts have the same charaters in Taiwan, meaning, PuTao is understood to be peanuts, while here on the mainland it is potato?
I thought Chinese charaters describe something unique about the vegetable or the animal, so it can be confused for something else.

July 23, 2009 at 6:58 AMHey Pearltower pete,
Sorry, you are wrong. All those terms are offensive for both decent Chinese and Westerners. Gou pi means "dog shit" and decent chinese are offended if you use it. In fact, often the "common" chinese are too.
You comments are common now, but shows the decline in morals within Western society.

July 19, 2009 at 8:40 AMThis is a great lesson. Lots of grammar, and showing the "High road/ Low road" for "work".
While I enjoy these lessons with Lao Wang, does he have to be presentated as a "loser"? Just wondering. Think the lessons could continue with Lao Wang in a more positive line.

September 27, 2009 at 10:40 AM@jennyzhu, maybe we can call it a catfight if we lable your dad as a "Tomcat"......
Depends on if they "came to blows".
I am also wondering if we could have a series/lesson on what to do, like call the Police? In case it happens to me (again) or adice to other fiereigners etc.
A thought.
