January 25, 2013 at 6:03 AMI think 共同的妻子 is a shared wife. A ”beard“ is a slang term for a 同妻。Perhaps, either a beard or a wife will convince others that you have manly hormones coursing through your blood.

As to your earlier premise, societies all have many important tasks, but individuals don't each have to do all of these tasks themselves. Otherwise, according to your theory, societies that encourage, or tolerate, priests to be celibate would be headed for inevitable collapse.
