February 18, 2015 at 4:55 AMFiona says "wei ba", but both speakers in the dialog say, "yi ba". It threw me too. I didn't understand the sentence in the dialog about a pig with three tails without reading the transcript, even though it is a simple sentence, and I know all the words in it. I assume this pronunciation is local to Taiwan.

February 6, 2015 at 4:23 AM@Busybees, Fiona's and Constance's Chinese is native to my ears. It is true that there are regional differences in usage. This somewhat comes with the territory of learning Chinese. If I learned to speak in, say Chengdu, Beijingers wouldn't always understand me, and so on.

March 29, 2015 at 1:38 AMI think we call this "repartee" in English. It is a barrowed French word, that describes an exchange of witty comments that would sound insulting, if not said between friends.
I'm afraid my Chinese hasn't reached a level where I can engage in this kind of banter. I wish I was at that level, but I am not. Anyway, I appreciate the lesson.
