@yingxiong Catherine is an awesome person, an excellent manager and a talented host - you are absolutely justified in wanting to hear her more often. :)

@Bendidelaowai I've been to a very modern cinema in Suzhou (苏州 Sūzhōu) that had a choice of original English or Chinese dub for English movies。

There are also smaller local cinemas that only offer Chinese versions of all movies.

I'd love to go to one of those open air screenings with a sheet and projector in a large public court yard like in the movie 小裁缝 / Xiǎo Cáifeng / Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress (youku link)

家常菜 jiāchángcài is my favourite food to eat no matter which 'national' or regional cuisine I'm eating.

我最爱吃家常菜 / wǒ zuì ài chī jiāchángcài / I love home style cooking the most!

They great thing about moving house in China is that it doesnt cost much to hire help - but unless you go with a professional mover, you really do have to watch everything carefully as things may get broken etc. In fact even with prefessional movers I guess one must watch them.

I for one prefer not to move house if possible, thus when we chose a new location, we choose one that we see ourselves living in for a while.

@ancalagon So being a shy person, do you find yourself avoiding conversations with people on the street? I would have thought that if you use Chinese for every day things like even eating in a small hole in the wall noodle shack, you'll have plenty of people actually coming up and talking to you, eg the boss of said noodle shack.

Anyway, I hope that as you learn new vocab etc you'll be inspired to use it more. Practice makes perfect :)

By the way your enthusiasm for the Executive program really made me happy and I'm sure Helen will glow when she reads your positive words.

@chris I think John would be best qualified to help you out with this issue. BTW Have you tried listening to the Qingwens as well? They help with a lot of fiddly words that are so common yet harder to grasp.

@mystic You seem to have done quite a few Newbies so I would intersperse Ele lessons with Newbie now as improving requires challenging yourself, which makes you try even harder.
