Speaking of 月饼, I'm currently kicking back in Lingbi for 中秋节, no 月饼 this year, but plenty of yummy 红烧排骨, 老母鸡,some sort of Huge 鱼 (and I brought Absolut Vodka instead of Baijiu).

When they said 阅兵 yuèbīng on the telly today (I watched in on Tudou.com) I thought it sounded like they wanted to eat moon cakes (月饼 yuèbǐng) - that was until I checked out the supplementary vocabulary.
Is 阅兵 used for particular review of troops, like when higher up officers review the troops under them, or just when the leader of the country reviews the troops?

October 1, 2009 at 6:41 AMI spent my first 国庆节(2003) in China in Beijing - being at 天安门广场 with about a million other people was pretty mind-blowing - I thought to myself "that's like the whole population of Brisbane standing in the square". It was pretty awesome.
Note that LESSONS on ChinesePod are created for culturo-linguistic learning purposes.
This LESSON is not intended to be political - it's simply a lesson based on a real events - a real celebration. Please don't take this thread down 'that' road.
Thanks :-)
PS Last night near my house, some idiots had their clocks wrong and set off a bunch of fireworks at 1am. LOL

September 25, 2009 at 8:47 AMXiaoPhil - the ending I mentioned was what I had wanted to do...but didn't end up doing - consider it an alternate ending... anyone care to create their own alternate ending script?

September 25, 2009 at 7:40 AM@james002219111 I agree that Canto sounds way cooler than Mando - I want to learn it too - but no one can seem to agree on just how many tones it has.
