@tvan You are indeed correct: Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninoff (Russian: Сергей Васильевич Рахманинов, Sergej Vasil’evič Rakhmaninov  :)

If I was going to expose my unborn child to music, I'd choose an eclectic mix of original but complex music. As for classical, I think I'd start with Rakmaninov.

Can anyone name or singer of the song in the back ground?

@mroby I'm envious of you living out in the sticks (or vast plains of nothingness in your case). Having once lived in similar environs I know the joy living an inexpensive, challenging yet joyously deprived (in a material sense) existence. In fact I often dream of being able to do that again, but alas the city has ensnared me.

What's the local speciality food wise? Photos?  :)

Fun times...I love eating meat, but I love veggies, beans and tofu etc even more- I prefer meat with my veggies, not veggies with meat. I believe that one of our poddies mentioned in a previous lesson that unless you are willing to hunt down and slaughter the animal yourself, skin and prepare it, then you shouldn't be eating its meat. I've done my fair share of chicken kills - not pleasant but, hey, that's what you gotta do to eat it.

On the topic of dog meat, I couldn't ever kill a dog FOR FOOD, hence I will never knowingly eat dog meat.

On the topic of sensitivity, I understand that many fellow westerners have weak constitutions and can't handle connecting the savage reality of a once livng creature being raised and slaughtered in bad conditions with that lovely medium rare steak sitting on the dinner plate. My Mum is one such person - even staring at a fish head on the plate is too much for her (but prawns she doesn't mind...weird).

We must face some unpleasant truths before being able to make change. But for some people a slow and gentle transition is necessary. Fair enough.

今天课程对话的稿子是我们ChinesePod的林辉写的。林辉来自广西,所以他可能从广西农民的角度来写了这个对话。反正我们的目的就是讲中国跟西方的种地区别,很有趣吧 :)

@mikeinewshot I think that you will find that some people are more modest and some less so in any culture. That being said, there are also many ways to gain, retain, save and/or project one's 'face'.

Thanks everyone for your positive encouragement, we aim to provide the best service we can. Connie, Jenny, Pete have done a great job!

On the topic of face, just remember that we are judging these behaviours from our own culturally biased perspectives. And whilst I am also a subjective participant in this viewpoint by default, I must still urge everyone to try to look at these concepts from an objective point of view too. Despite some manifestations of such cultural concepts seeming wrong to us, we should attempt to assess such manifestations by the cultural standards from which the concepts themselves originated.
