@rjberki @tvan I couldn't agree more. In fact I think you'll find a lot of luxury items for sale in China at prices much higher than they are else where in the world for the simple fact that those who can afford such items are happy to pay. Face.

I had an encounter with a Zombie in 张家界 during last summer's 汉语桥 competition. If it wasn't for the 4 bowls of traditional rice wine we'd been given by locals dressed up in traditional dress at the entrance to the 'museum' - I'd have picked them for plastic Ronald Mcdonald moulds straight away. Suffice to say that my legs turned to jelly when I saw this weird tableau. Or not.

@Bababardwan  You CAN 挂失 on the phone, but you must still take in your ID (身份证 OR 护照) to the branch that issued the card within 7 days. You can just forget about your card if there's no money on it, but then again it could get used for nefarious purposes.

With regards to your question:

I'm also curious about 身份证 which John said 外国人 don't need.Does it ever become a requirement i.e.if you emmigrate to China? Do 外国人 ever become citizens and if so is this a difficult process?

This lesson involves a Chinese lady who is reporting the loss of her card, hence she would take her 身份证, if she were a foreigner then she'd use her 护照. Remember that our users also include Chinese nationals as well as 外国人, hence my reference to 身份证.

Just remember that if you DO lose your card, you normally have to go back to the exact branch that you applied for, and were issued the card, in order to successfully 挂失. You'll then have to wait 5-7 working days in order for your application to be processed and the new card issued. During that time you won't be able to just show your passport or 身份证 in order withdraw money. You SHOULD be able to still use your online banking account to transfer money to another account. So when applying for a debit or credit card in China, make sure you activate net banking at the same time (takes longer at the counter when applying but will save you time in the long run).

Also Bank of China and China Merchant's Bank online banking systems don't support Macs nor do they support Firefox. I run Windows XP on my Macbook with VMware Fusion so It's no biggie.

That being said, watch your belongings where ever you are on the planet. :)

如果要点咕咾肉的话,我就会跟服务员讲要酸一点的,他们就会多放点儿醋了。其实呢,我不经常点那个菜。

The first track was \"M01 I - Making of Cyborg\" from the Ghost in the Shell 1995 movie soundtrack.

The second track was \"Kaneda\" by Shoji Yamashiro from the Akira Soundtrack.

@rjberki Wei2 is the more polite way to say wei, wei4 is less polite - although some people do answer their phones with wei4. Wei can be used to get someone's attention as well as answering a phone (or door - but in this case it's usually followed by a shei2 a?)

Haven't been to Munich yet, but will one day. Would like to sample the various beers brewed in the smaller pub breweries.
