I don't find either term offensive ... considering the alternatives. Don't worry about what you call the guy, worry about whether or not he can get through the door. :-)

I like to open the windows for a bit and let some fresh air in whenever the temperature is warm enough (say, -10° C and up). I'm with the ladies on this one. Maybe John and Greg can buy themselves a couple nice warm toques.

Hi Bodawei,

Laws regarding official days of rest vary by province throughout Canada. In my own, most stores must remain closed on the 26th so the Big Boxing Day Blow Out Deals!!! are to be had today--on the 27th.

As long as I can remember (I'm in my mid-thirties) Boxing Day has been the day to get a bargain. Quite like Black Friday in the U.S. In recent years, though, the Canadian dollar has been hovering around parity with the Greenback. (I realize that you're an economist, so I'm not telling you anything that you don't already know.) So, in an effort to keep Canadian shoppers on their own side of the border, many Canadian retailers have begun offering Black Friday deals. Note that Canadian's celebrate Thanksgiving in October (since we have a shorter growing season). So this year we had Deals!! at the end of November. Then prices crept back up a bit for a couple weeks, (although, this is when we get the small "d" Christmas deals) then more Deals!! a month later. Oh, and both days, Black Friday and Boxing Day have kind of morphed into week long sales.

Doesn't add much to the above commentaries, but tosses in a few interesting tidbits.

Here's a video clip from Canadian comedian Rick Mercer's visit to China. Rick's tour guide takes him to the park in question to visit one of these matchmaking events. (1:30)

Weird! That tune started playing in my head as soon as I read this lesson's title but I couldn't remember who sang it.

Funny. The local (Atlantic Canada) 龙虾 lóngxiā fishermen have been complaining that lobster 时价 shíjià are so low that they can't make any money. Maybe somebody can put them in touch with this particular restaurateur.
