March 12, 2015 at 12:38 PMMy natural tendency would be to want to begin the conversation with an apology, as I might in English: "I'm really sorry, but I forgot about my appointment today." "对不起,我完全忘了。。。“ Would that sound normal or weird in Chinese?
Posted on: Entire/Whole: 整 (zhěng) vs 全 (quán) [Video/Audio]
March 7, 2015 at 4:37 PM(By the way, the 'Edit' function for comments is terrible! It loses all formatting, and removes spacing between paragraphs and even words! I hope someone can fix that.)
Posted on: Entire/Whole: 整 (zhěng) vs 全 (quán) [Video/Audio]
March 7, 2015 at 4:25 PMI'd only ever seen 整 with 个, so seeing it with other measure words was enlightening. I also get the basic grammatical difference between 整 and 全.
But... on the whole, the lesson was too short and left me with too many questions. (Sorry!) For example, both 整个城市 and 全市 were explained as meaning "the whole city" (the first as a 'unit', the second as an 'entirety'). Is this a purely grammatical difference? Is the difference just a stylistic nuance? Or is there a significant change in meaning? If so, I can't see it!
You gave complete sentences for 整 but not for 全. If you reconstructed the same sentences with 全, explaining whether the differences are grammatical, stylistic, or a change in meaning (so that the sentences are not interchangeable), that would have been really helpful!
Lastly, I remember seeing some video lessons with Gwilym. I think interactions between you two would be particularly good for Qing Wen type lessons. I always appreciate his perspective as a Chinese language learner. I'm sure his questions would often overlap with mine!
Posted on: 猜灯谜
March 6, 2015 at 4:24 PM谢谢,Constance.

Amazing lesson! Dialogue beautifully produced and acted. Even though there was no video, it was somehow so vivid. So much in it, butI never lost an intuitive sense of what was going on. I've always loved CPod, but in my opinion, this new team has taken it to another plane of language-teaching brilliance! Thank you!
Posted on: Saying You're Angry: 生气
April 20, 2015 at 2:57 PMLoki 总是不乖,让Hulk非常生气。永远不会成为朋友。
Thank you for this clarification! "X 生 Y 的气" has always confused me. I shall studiously try to forget whose 气 it is, and imagine who is 生-ing it instead. So, would the Hulk say:
《别让我生气!生气的时候,你不会喜欢我。》
And could Loki say: 《对不起,绿绿!别生我的气。》
Do those constructions work?
