July 29, 2010 at 1:54 AMHi jbdd21
Welcome to ChinesePod - and thanks for this feedback; it's all really helpful!
Please do let us know how your method works for you over the next 10 lessons. It's very important to us that you feel comfortable to share your experiences, questions, achievements and concerns here on the community. There are learners of every level here, and we appreciate when everyone gets involved, not least Newbies!
Look forward to hearing from you again soon :-)

July 4, 2010 at 2:03 PMIt's incredible how they do that. Even upon entering the Shanghai Expo site, I received targetted Expo-related SMS spam... scary.

July 1, 2010 at 8:30 AMNice idea! We have had two sets of visiting poddies in the office just today. My plan is to start a photo montage on the site of everyone who stops by :-)

July 1, 2010 at 5:33 AMI am guilty of feeling irritated when people in China don't say thank you or sorry, but I should remind myself that it's not that they are being rude!
Whilst I'm not about to stop voicing my gratitude when people help me out, it's really helpful to bear in mind this important cultural difference.

June 30, 2010 at 10:09 AMhaha, can't argue with that (I would rather the word "refined", though, yes!) :-)

June 30, 2010 at 9:44 AMIn British English, we'd also say: "get a tan" or "where did you get such a good tan?". This treats it as a noun, so there's clearly all kinds of ways of using this word!
By the way, I truly love how people here care enough about language to debate about this stuff - even the Americans, with their funny vulgarized version of English... ;-)o

June 28, 2010 at 3:03 AMXiaophil, we are really pleased to have Dan here with us over the summer. Watch out for this week's News & Features; we'll be giving him a proper introduction!

June 27, 2010 at 4:26 PMevgeniyazhu - do let us know if/when you come to Shanghai. If you come next summer, you'll be able to enjoy all the improvements that the Expo has brought, but without all the expensive hotel rates of this year - a good plan! ;-)
