June 7, 2010 at 7:23 AMThank you for all your feedback, pretzellogic. John is not in the office today, but he and everyone involved will be taking onboard all these suggestions. I think the matter of lesson management, and the way it is connected with progress tracking, is a tricky one but one that is important to address.

June 7, 2010 at 7:16 AMHey xiao_liang, it's good to be back - and welcomed (thank you)!
I'm not quite sure how to sum up the Amazing Race; it was relentlessly intense, but supreme amounts of fun. We never knew what was next, with no control over anything. I found it kind of liberating :-)
The show is being aired on ICS (in Shanghai) and CCTV9 (in China) weekly from 8 August. I guess each episode will be available online soon after... Urgghhh, I am already cringeing at the thought of being on tv. I guess I didn't really think it through before signing up...

April 21, 2010 at 9:44 AMIt seems the Expo is getting a bit of bad press today, such as this article in the AP.
Apparently, they're just not ready for the real opening.
Poor Haibo must be feeling pretty stressed right now ;-)

April 18, 2010 at 8:17 AMI believe EnglishPod's Marco is at the F1 today... I'll ask him to tell us about it tomorrow when we get into the office!
Fortunately (unfortunately?), the light rain here isn't much to worry about this afternoon - it was lovely and sunny earlier.

Chanelle77 - the tech team are working hard to smooth out all bugs, so I will make sure this gets relayed to them. Out of interest, when you choose to view the News & Features Group, what is visible on the list when you choose "newest"?

April 13, 2010 at 9:32 AMUm, apologies, xiao_LIANG! Maybe you should consider changing your name to xiao_long anyway? I like little dragon better - and it suits your avatar ;-)
At the moment we are planning a video tour for the ChinesePod method (it's way overdue), but it could be fun to put something together of a more personal and less formal nature. I'm sure David (Xu Zhou) could put together something cool with is editing expertise...

April 13, 2010 at 9:25 AMI find it fascinating how the definition of "cheating", and by extension also "right and wrong", can vary so much from culture to culture. I mean, you grow up being taught "right" from "wrong" just to hop on a plan and discover the rest of the world has different ideas entirely!

April 13, 2010 at 4:00 AMI guess when you're paying the teacher to give you a pass, the particular format of the exam is, well, academic :-)

April 13, 2010 at 3:39 AMxiaophil,
This attitude to cheating is exactly the question I was trying to explore in posting that link, so it's interesting to learn of your findings as a teacher. Of course, it's not a criticism just an observation - an interesting one!

June 7, 2010 at 8:03 AMHey bababardwan -
Thanks so much for the welcome and, uhh, those kind words of reassurance!! Frankly, I'm less worried about the arguing bit (they have very little material of me fighting with my partner) than about the numerous faux pas they might draw on! We shall see - there's not much I can do about it now anyway :-)
You're right about the show. It's a franchise of the US version and filmed in the same format. I wouldn't want to be involved in a tv show again, but it was interesting to see how it all works. Alan Wu's blog, http://www.wulander.com/ has a few shots from the filming.
