这是我的抉择。做了一个抉择。
“选择”可以是动词，也可以是名词。
如果它们都是名词，“抉择”比“选择”严肃得多，重要得多。比如“国家的抉择”
“我的抉择“：这个决定做了以后，我的命运会发生很大的改变。比如，我决定移民中国。
“我的选择”：这个比较普通。比如，我午饭选择吃麦当劳。
选择 后面可以加”了“。比如：我选择了(something/somebody)他。我选择了ChinesePod的工作。
不过，如果”选择“的后面是”do something"可以加，也可以不加，一般不加的多。

December 7, 2012 at 2:43 AMJust for the Chinese sentence, there are two meanings. It could be both. But you are right, the sentence in the dialogue should be 'I can't place his accent.'.

December 7, 2012 at 2:34 AM是的。是有“以……为”这个结构。不过呢，”以……为“ 是一个neutral 的结构。但是这里是一个sacrasm的句子。
“当”可以是neutral的，也可以是sacrasm。但是"以……为“很formal的，不可能sacrasm。
