August 25, 2020 at 11:38 AM其实在台湾 国语的意思就是中文(“Mandarin”)。 按照我的 浏览器的 Zhongwen Chinese Popup Dictionary 国语 表示 "Chinese language (Mandarin), emphasizing its national nature; Chinese as a primary or secondary school subject; Chinese in the context of the Nationalist Government; . . ." 之所以我认为普通话跟国语是一样的语言是因为台湾的官方语言就是来自中国大陆,而不是 “台湾话、闽南话、 等等。

August 17, 2020 at 3:21 PMNone of the supplementary material illustrates the main point of the lesson: pronunciation differences. Could you give us a list of all the words cited with the pinyin for both alternative pronunciations?

August 10, 2020 at 10:07 AM为什么你们写的是 【普通话和台湾的中文】 而没写 【国语和大陆的中文】? (本问题包括在内举个例子)

June 30, 2019 at 8:00 AMThanks for your comment, but the "wrong writing" you refer to is not wrong. Pizza can be written or spoken in Chinese as either 批萨 pīsà or 比萨 bǐsà 。 It is in both cases a loan word. Your suggested "correction" to 比萨 is actually the name of the city in Italy, Pisa. You know, the one with the learning tower. So if you are using your alternative you might want to add "饼" bǐng at the end to indicate you are talking about a round thing that you eat. 比萨饼 / 披萨饼 are both acceptable.

June 15, 2019 at 5:03 AMHere's a tip: there is a "report a mistake button" on the left hand side of the screen. You can use that so that comments which are no longer relevant don't remain in the comments section history.

August 26, 2020 at 2:15 AMPS: In my original post the meaning of " . . . 题包括在内举个例子 is that if you are in Taiwan and want to say "Mandarin" you would say 国语 whereas in the PRC you would say “普通话" Granted, that's an example of two different words to mean the same thing, rather that pronunciation differences within the same word, which is the emphasis of this lesson. Maybe CPod will give a few examples of word differences in Part 2, even though this is a series focused on 发音差异.
On a somewhat related note I would recommend listeners to the recent lesson on Mandopop. (The graphic for the lesson says "Mandarin songs from Taiwan 1950 - 1970s" -- just a reminder that Mandarin was and is the official language on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.) As you would expect the lesson is mainly designed to help you learn some Chinese through song lyrics, but there are some interesting asides on musicology and also the history of modern Taiwan (post-1949) that influenced the lyrics.
Anyway, very useful lesson here, and thanks again to Betty for preparing the "supplement to the supplement" in the link within the lesson description above with the pinyin for Taiwan and mainland pronunciations of the same words.
