You are not from Queensland then? With all its problems, our system still seems good when compared to other countries.

The Australian health system is state based. And the private hospitals have much faster out-patients than the government hospitals.

This would make it hard to compare to, say, the US which does not have a free health system at all.

Out-patients in Oz are not ony for emergency. Many people go there out of hours or to get free treatement which they otherwise would have to pay for if the visited a GP at a medical centre. Most of my refugee students seem to always go to a hospital rather than a medical centre. Here is where China is really different. People in China usually go to a hospital when sick. In Oz they usually go to a medical centre where a group of doctors practise, often with a pharmacy, X-ray or other medical services nearby.

Congratulations to New Zealanders for winning the Rugby (橄榄球)World Cup last weekend.

France came second, Australia third, Wales 4th.

How do you say "Congratulations" in Chinese?

Good lesson.

I remember going into a shop and asking for 肥皂 (fei2zao4)and getting laundry soap.  What I needed was 香皂 (xiang1zao4) = perfumed soap - bathroom soap.  Just another 香 word.

Thanks for this lesson.  It was very timely.  After listening to the Detective Li series in UI I was wondering about the use of 地 as a de.  So this QW has answered my question perfectly!

Yeah, sorry, they are not Roman numerals, but Hindu-Arabic.

But my point was, at what stage did the Chinese begin to use the hindu-arabic numbers, as opposed to their own characters representing their numbers.

Did the chinese originally use the figure "0" though? Wouldn't they have used 零? Roman numerals came later - so perhaps the chinese got the expression from the English? But then again, chinese don't play cricket.
