A famous tongue-twister is about the difference between sì 四 (the number 4) and shí 十 (the number 10), with the verb shì 是 ("is") thrown in to make it harder. Here are the first couple of lines:

四是四,十是十;

十四是十四,四十是四十......

sì shí sì, shí shì shí;

shí sì shì shí sì, sì shí shì sì shí

I didn't notice it at first, but the description for 66 Enjoyable Characters with Joy does say: "... we are gonna show you 66 traditional characters that you see every day."

Hi Alice,

Glad you liked it!

At the Intermediate level, it's ChinesePod policy to shoot for a 50/50 mix of English and Chinese in the discussion. You can read the description at the top of the page here.

 Hi Jasmine!

There are a few words in Chinese that tend to change tone, and bù is one of them. Here is a series of lessons about the three most common:

Lesson on : 一

Lesson on: 不

Lesson on: Two third tones

双十一 is "Singles Day," because the date is written 11.11 - all single digits. It's a new holiday invented primarily, from what I can tell, for commercial purposes. It has turned into a buying frenzy that completely eclipses America's "Black Friday." Here's an article about it from over a year ago.

My two cents: I've always heard it yìmóyíyàng, but I've seen Pinyin for both.

It does seem weird! Breaking down characters according to the meaning of the individual components is a tricky but necessary process. If you want accurate information, your best source is the Outlier Dictionary. If you want to go very far with characters, a dictionary like this is indispensable.

If you're going to memorize huge quantities of characters, many people find it quite effective to come up with ludicrous stories about how the components interact with each other. This can be far faster and more effective than learning the true etymology, especially when you've got THOUSANDS of these to memorize, and the etymology is often rather arbitrary and unmemorable.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but my personal hunch would be the same as yours. Now if you talk with Chinese people who really believe in Traditional Chinese Medicine, there's a huge system of thought regarding the proper balance between "heat" and "cold" in the body. It influences almost every aspect of health care.
