This lesson also brought up another question for me. There is a word in the dialogue 精彩 which is translated as "interesting." In my studies I've come across 2 other words for "interesting" 有意思 and 有趣. 这些三个词有什么区别吗？maybe that would make for an "interesting" qingwen (horrible pun I know).

Also, distinguishing the many different words for happy and joy that seem to exist in Chinese would make for a good qingwen as well.

if anything it warps our electoral system to favor certain states over others and as a result candidates do all they can to appeal and target certain states while ignoring others

each person does vote for a presidential candidate in each state at the federal level of government. The electoral college basically weighs the proportion of each states' votes for president based on their population.

So like New York would get 20 votes because it has a large population and Wyoming would get like two votes because it has a small population. So if more people in a state in total vote for one candidate more than all others, that candidate would get those states votes. So that's why there are certain states (battleground states) that candidates campaign much more in than others

It was suppose to be a way to limit popular influence in the 18th century but its an archaic and out dated way to elect a president.

Haven't listening to the lesson but I looked over the dialogue and there's a lot of good, useful vocabulary in here. Reminds me some of the old one from 2007 "election candidates"  http://chinesepod.com/lessons/election-candidates but that dialogue was much longer and more difficult.

I'm not exactly sure what "disease"/ "plague" you are talking about. elections? obama? romney?

Hey, can you use like在这里 站得下 to say there is room here to stand? (like if you were on a crowded subway or bus)

I agree, this dialogue is much more challenging but has a lot more to it then most intermediate dialogues (especially the more recent ones they have been putting out). I like this dialogue a lot because of that.

hey, you all said that 面对困难的时候，他总是一马当先。 means " when confronted with adversity, he's always the first one coming up with the solutions"- is the "coming up with the solutions" part just implied? I don't see that in the chinese.

couldn't it also just mean- when faced with adversity, he takes the lead/ he leads the way?
