April 10, 2011 at 11:06 PMTwo ways I found to help greatly with my vocabulary: - Reading to my 3-year old. Great for getting used to usage of basic words. - Record down any interesting word I encounter in daily life immediately when I see it, on my phone. Then revise later.

April 4, 2011 at 11:27 PMI agree with andrewgildea, a small kid needs daily love and attention from parents. Granted that some parents, like my wife and I, need to work due to economic reasons, parents must also realize that having a kid means making sacrifices in other areas such as career path. I've given up on pursuing exciting and lucrative jobs, said no to promotion opportunities, but instead settled on a stable job with sane hours and no long-distance travel, just so that I can pick up my kid from childcare and spent quality time every evening. Weekends is 100% family time.
I have a friend who indeed only sees his kids once a week. He pursues a very exciting and lucrative consulting career, flying to various countries all the time. I wonder what's the point of him having kids in the first place.

April 4, 2011 at 11:24 AMSo what about grandfathers? An old man didn't help with child raising much (until recently), and couldn't hunt/fight as well as younger men. There is likely a evolutionary reason for why humans live so long, but I think its more complicated than just the grandmother hypothesis.

March 16, 2011 at 10:10 PMCan I also use 躲 here to mean "to hide somewhere", e.g. 躲在这里? Furthermore, can I use 藏 to mean "to hide something", e.g. 把钱藏好? Thanks.

March 1, 2011 at 10:06 PMIs the number of eggs based on 阴 (female, even number) and 阳 (male, odd number)? I guess giving just 1 egg would seem quite stingy, so its 3 for boy.

February 8, 2011 at 10:04 PMIs 注射 the same meaning as 打针? I normally would phrase it like 打疫苗针.

April 20, 2011 at 2:57 AMJust want to say something about that remark at the end about bittorrent. I only found out about ChinesePod after downloading some episodes from bittorrent some years ago. Have been a loyal subscriber since.
