October 26, 2010 at 6:41 AMDid the "daughter" mispronounced 辞职? I tried to listen several times but still can't reconcile the spoken tones with the written one.

September 21, 2010 at 11:29 PMI live in Melbourne, Australia, and I hire someone to come clean my house for 2 hours every fortnight. Not too expensive. However they are usually guys, have to carry big powerful vacuum cleaner on their back. So not exactly 阿姨. Also someone must be at home to supervise.

September 15, 2010 at 10:55 AMThis should be a bigger problem for guys given that there are 120 boys born to every 100 girls.

September 3, 2010 at 11:24 AMVirtualbox is no more techish than most things on Linux. The most common problems you might encounter might be networking ( choose bridging adapter makes thing easier ) and shared drives ( run Samba on Linux to solve this ) . Overall definitely easier than configuring Wine to work properly.

September 3, 2010 at 8:32 AMWine is not reliable enough for many apps. Here is my setup that IMO solves most problems. I have Mandriva Linux as my OS which I use 90% of the time. For the remaining 10% ( mostly games ), I install and run WinXP as a Virtualbox image, on top of my Linux OS. I take regularly snapshots of this image, so if it gets infected, I can easily revert back to a clean slate. Best of all, Virtualbox is free.

And when did curry chicken ever become Chinese food? Curry is from India.
Posted on: Discussing a Thesis Topic with an Advisor
August 4, 2010 at 7:25 AMWhen I was doing my post-graduate studies (many years ago), I was told that the "thesis" was the proposal or topic to be studied, and the "dissertation" was the report/essay I produced at the end of it. So I was writing a dissertation, not a thesis.
Is 论文 more like the thesis or the dissertation?

October 29, 2010 at 10:29 AMHi JasonSch,
Yeah I did hear it as cìzhí, probably just a simple mispronunciation due to the speed of the conversation. Personally, I prefer lessons with a slower pace of conversation because I can catch the tones better.
Wow, why has this become such a long thread, over such a minor mistake?
