Yes, 黄牛 (huángniú) originates with Shanghainese, however it's become quite commonly used in other areas of China as well.

hi clarob,

(Wǒ bù hěn hǎo) is incorrect.

You would say:

(Wǒ bùtài hǎo.)
(Wǒ bù shì hěn hǎo.)

hi dschingcher,

(Nǐ yī gè rén ma?) means 'Are you alone?'

自己 (zìjǐ) means one's self, as in:

你自己做。(Nǐ zìjǐ zuò.)  Do it yourself.

hi emily424,

Because Chinese people's hair is so dark, lowlights are unheard of here.  However, you can just explain to them what you want, as in:

我要挑染。(Wǒ yào tiāo rǎn.) I want highlights.

Then explain what type of color:

颜色浅一点。(Yánsè qiǎn yīdiǎn.)  Lighter colored.
(Yánsè shēn yīdiǎn.)  Darker colored.

warm tones: 暖色调  (Nuǎnsèdiào)
cool tones: 冷色调 (Lěngsè diào)

hi macallus88,

有人 (Yǒurén) can be singular or plural.  有人们
(Yǒurén men) is not used.
