September 5, 2008 at 6:14 AMHi GarethM,
You can get the PDF in traditional characters by using the Traditional Character Plug-In, explained here.
Or, in URL address bar above, when you open the regular PDF you just add four letters to the link address 'trad' (as below) and it will give you the traditional PDF:
(instead of
http://s3.amazonaws.com/chin...../pdf/chinesepod_C0981.pdf
you use:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/chin....../pdf/chinesepod_C0981trad.pdf)

I know, my hair was such a mess that day, so embarrassing! Though it is nice to have a job that you get to sit in the hair salon and get paid. And, yes, in fact just went for Yunnan 菜 last night.

"Blade 3 around the back and sides and a bit shorter and trimmed on top." is:
后面和旁边用3号刀片;上面修一下,短一点儿
(Hòumian hé pángbiān yòng 3 hào dāopiàn; shàngmian xiū yīxià, duǎn yīdiǎnr.)
And, the song is a band called Datarock from Norway.

Getting your hair washed in the chair is definitely a China luxury. Not sure about anywhere else, but it's definitely the way it's done here in Shanghai.
If you want to ask for it, it's referred to as 干洗 (gānxǐ).

September 4, 2008 at 7:35 AMhi again Chris,
A + 跟 + B + (一起) + V
When the 一起 (yīqǐ) is used to describe doing something together at one time, it can be omitted. There are three ways you could say it:
1.我跟你一起去吧。Wǒ gēn nǐ yīqǐ qù ba.
2.我跟你去吧。Wǒ gēn nǐ qù ba.
3.我们一起去吧。 Wǒmen yīqǐ qù ba.
However, when you describe working together, living together, you cannot omit the 一起 (yīqǐ)... as in:
我们在一起工作。Wǒmen zài yīqǐ gōngzuò.
他们住在一起。Tāmen zhù zài yīqǐ.

他是我们班最小的。
Tā shì wǒmen bān zuì xiǎo de.
When they use 小 (xiǎo) in this kind of a context, it definitely means in age. If you were talking size, you would say:
他是我们班个子最小的。
Tā shì wǒmen bān gèzi zuìxiǎo de.
Now, the nuance behind the 算 (suàn). Yes, you can also say:
他是我们班最小的。
Tā shì wǒmen bān zuìxiǎo de.
To mean 'He is the youngest in our class.' The slight difference in feeling is that when you use the 算 (suàn), it has more of the feeling of having gone through a comparison, a calculation, perhaps of quite a few people, and very close in age. And the conclusion is, that you have found that this one is the youngest.
