May 26, 2008 at 6:40 AMhi ember, 没人 (méirén) is the same as 没有人 (méiyǒu rén) 乱说 (luànshuō) is a verb and is used when someone says something incorrect. 废话 (fèihuà) is a noun, that means 'nonsense, rubbish' 别这么想 (Bié zhème xiǎng) is the same as 别这样想 (Bié zhèyàng xiǎng) Yes, you can use 放弃 (fàngqì) in other situations. It is quite commonly used to mean 'give up', i.e.: 继续跑,别放弃! Jìxù pǎo, bié fàngqì!

May 26, 2008 at 6:35 AMhi henning, 单间 (dānjiān) is used to mean a single room. Usually for hotel rooms, or renting a single room. 包房 (bāofáng) is mostly used when speaking of KTV rooms.

May 26, 2008 at 4:34 AMhi alwingate and horsiebabe, 哪里(na3li5) and 哪儿(na3r5) are interchangeable. We use them both in the lessons because in daily life you will hear both varieties, depending on where the speaker is from.

May 26, 2008 at 1:52 AMhi s0395617, 往 (wǎng) vs. 向 (xiàng) when you are speaking about direction, i.e., north, west, etc. or the location (哪里 nǎli, 那里 nàli, etc.,前 (qián) etc. you can use either of these, however 往 (wǎng) is used more frequently. 向 (xiàng) can be used also with more abstract concepts, as in 向她学习 (xiàng tā xuéxí).
