May 2, 2014 at 9:16 AMTeaching English is a little different from most jobs as you don't apply for the work permit. You apply for a "foreign expert certificate." A few years ago, the requirements ESL teachers needed for to get the certificate were something like a Bachelors degree in any subject, being a native English speaker from one of several countries China deems acceptable, and two years post grad experience (can't remember if it's field specific or in anything) or teaching ESL certificate (TSOL, CELTA, ect.)
