Posted on: Saying Good-bye at a Tavern in Nanjing -- 金陵酒肆留别
June 3, 2009 at 11:01 AM

I have to say, that the finish of these series is something really nice to me, because it's Libai:) one of my favorite poets 。 Why? For this poem:

床前明月光,疑是地上霜。
举头望明月,低头思故乡。

I don't know a better expression of feelings of somebody away from home.

as it's about "good bye"...something from diffrent part of the world, actually, written by a poet who is from a village which is very close to my home in Russia.

Sergey Esenin:

Goodbye my friend, goodbye

Goodbye, my friend, goodbye
My love, you are in my heart.
It was preordained we should part
And be reunited by and by.
Goodbye: no handshake to endure.
Let's have no sadness — furrowed brow.
There's nothing new in dying now
Though living is no newer.

The story of this poem is very sad...this poem was written by S.Yesenin with his blood right before he hanged himself up.

something ends, something begins. but it's sad when something good finishes. Anyway, waiting for Pete on the boards and maybe another series....are you planning something?

这个可真的很有意思:))

下面我从自己个人的角度想说出来自己的感觉。

对我来说这是很难听的一节课。。。我是在东欧长大的,东欧受到了世界第二战争很深的影响。我一听到“婚检” 就马上回想起来世界二战争德国的想法“理想的种族",其实比价相似的想法。而且如果问我,我想做这样的”婚检“,无理由我不会做,因为我们真的没办法控制基因,这是上帝的事情(或者缘分、缘份、运气)。

@Bob:

We are gifted differently:)) For me, my spoken language will always be better than my written language - and here, even though I pick up languages fast, I can't do anything (it's really not the matter of amount of work).  I wish you good luck and don't feel frustrated, it does take some effort to learn to do something;), think about the reward too! but maybe...try some freestyle sometime:))

@Chris

Literally it was like this. and somewhat it continues, though I do more varied activities:) with a bit different environment. Soon, in three months..a 24h Chinese studying might happen...

to all analytical learners:)

about "them". Chinese came to me through hard, hard, hard work, I came to China without knowing Chinese at all. for the first three months it was a disaster...I couldn't get a thing (I was learning at the university). It took, literally, this schedule: get up, do Chinese, eat lunch, do Chinese, eat dinner, do Chinese before sleep. And like this for around 6 months. This is how I managed to get where I am, at quite good level. I wish you good luck,  and believe me it is rewarding, when you manage

continuing @azzote comment

From a point of view of an advanced learner CPOd is an extremely well prepared resource...yes, it's not perfect! I see some flows, but as a language teacher by myself, also translator and interpreter I see that CPod does a lot of good job and prepares well. As a person who has some idea about database systems I have to say that keeping chinesepod.com running is already a tough job and changing a database ain't easy at all.

About the podcasts:

the podcasts evolve, evolve a lot! from dialog - based in the very beginning, we now get vodcasts, video-material based podcasts, news-based podcasts. CPod is giving us so much resources, that you should naturally start looking for explanations on your own and share on the discussion board.

pdf's...honestly, my listening skills sprang up enourmously after listening to chinesepod...if you want to ask about any evaluation - my last listening from HSK test was at the level 7 in comparison to previous level 4 (8 is the highest intermediate level). the lively dialog and language used in podcasts helped a lot. On some 10th episode of poems with Pete I started figuring out the meaning while listening to the podcast. I value pdf's and transcripts provided, but they are not live-important to me (pdf's are convenient though, to check if I am right, because they arrive to my itunes).

And CPod is a challenge, no matter on which step to Mandarin Nirvana you are!

Long live CPod:)) or.. CPod

changye!!! Welcome back!

hmmm...interesting lesson to remind myself the tones, and that's the best use of newbie lessons for me:)) though rarely my Chinese friends would offer juice to drink... maybe each region is different, or for the sake of the lesson!
