October 13, 2011 at 3:45 PMIt's been a long time since I've visited a newbie lesson. I just want to note that one might also ask, 你今晚有空吗? nǐ jīnwǎn yǒukòng ma? 今晚 is tonight, and 有空 is have free time to do something.
By the way, where have all of the avatars gone. I no longer see them when I view the lessons.

October 22, 2011 at 3:45 PMI've not listened to the discussion yet but have read the dialog. It seems to me that the translation of "他去过美国" would be better stated as "He has gone to America," rather than "He has been to the US before." Since 去 is to go, I'm not sure why the present perfect of 是 or “to be” is used rather than the present perfect of "to go."
Also, why the "before?" Obviously, if one has gone to America, then it happened "before." “Has gone" definitely gives the sense of "experiencing." Right, a nit pick ...
