If we correct this, then we should make sure not to say "the Pentagon" instead of "the Department of Defense" or "the Internet" instead of "the World Wide Web". Nevertheless, we do it all the time, and usually it adds flavor to the language.

November 13, 2012 at 4:44 PMHaha, I used to live in Changchun from late 2009 to early 2011 and remember seeing one of those stores by 桂林路. One of my friends pointed out that it was the equivalent of 的, and it ended up being the first bit of Japanese that I learnt. It did surprise me that there doesn't seem to be much of a negative reaction to using Japanese imports like that. I guess they look cool and foreign.

November 13, 2012 at 3:49 AM无间道 is Infernal Affairs, which is the movie series (there are three of them) that Martin Scorcese based The Departed on. They're original, well filmed, and are what I consider to be a staple of Hong Kong films. Check them out if you get a chance.

November 23, 2012 at 4:46 PMI would say these two are fairly common. 哥们儿 and 小姐 are definitely more localized, but I try not to worry about where and when I should or shouldn't use them. While my foreign friends laugh at how I use 哥们儿 in Nanjing, I think southern Chinese find it endearing and a mark of where I originally lived in China.
