The basic (or original) meaning of 对面 is "face to face", just like 对面谈话,and "oppsite" is a derivative/secondary meaning. And this is the reason you can say 对面, but not 对边. The usage of 对面, as a direction word, is the same as words such as 前面 and 左面.

"对面" is grammatically a little different from other "directional words" such as 前面,上面 and  左面. The basic meaning of "对面" is "face to face". The same holds for 对脸 (dui4lian3, face to face).

部首法以外,中国还有一个检字法叫“四角号码”。正如其名,每个汉字按四角笔形取号,比如说“颜”字的四角号码是0128。在你无法确定部首的时候,用四角号码来查字比较方便。

Hi siteng

The correct tone is "she3 bu de". The same is always true, perhaps, for "~不得" placed after a verb.

Hi shanghaichanges

Without the "会", you have to call police immediately to save your life.

Hi halloweenhoek,

South Korean society has been more heavily influenced by 儒教 (Confucianism) than China has, even though 儒教 is originated in China. "Pecking order/hierarcy" is very important in Korean society, and this is the reason "哥" and "姐" are commonly used among Korean people just to show "who is superior". I heard somewhere that Korean guys often ask people's age even when they pick a quarrel/fight on the street. I don't know if it's true, hehe.
