March 23, 2009 at 5:49 AMOne of the most popularly used 放心-related words in China today are "放心食品" (safe food), 放心牛奶 (safe milk), 放心豆腐 (safe tofu) and so on. Be noted 放心食品 merely indicates "edible food" (or poison-free food), but not necessarily mean "healthy food". Criteria for being 放心食品 in China are not so strict.
放心食品却不很放心，因为会有假冒品。

That's a good topic for Monday morning, hehe. Let me show you some euphemistic expressions about that.
大便 = 大解 （da4 jie3）
小便 = 小解 (xiao3 jie3)
上厕所 = 解手 （jie3 shou3） = 去一号 (qu4 yi1 hao4)
去一号 (or 上一号) is mainly used by women.

Having good language skills doesn't necessarily make you a good speaker/communicator. Language skill and communication skill are basically two different things. Maybe you can find some bad examples even here in Chinesepod forum.

蔷 is a simplified form of 薔, although the former one is not so simple, haha. Incidentally, exactly speaking, 玫瑰 is not the same thing as 蔷薇. 玫瑰 is a species of the 蔷薇 family in biological classification, however both of them are commonly used in the sense of "rose" in China. 玫瑰 (mei2 kui) is more colloquial than 蔷薇.

Haha, that's just a hilarious episode. Actually 大便/小便 are somewhat "formal" expressions, or maybe they are already "euphemistic" in China. Doctors often use these terms when seeing a patient. For the record, 拉屎 (la1shi3) is much more straightforward than 大便.
