I had no doubt that you meant "Normandy campaign", hehe. There is a similar word "X-day" (X デー) in Japanese, but it's usually used for possible serious incidents/events, but not for something like Mother's day. Even "Xmas day" is not called "X day" in Japan, hehe.

Why don't you ask your Chinese friends about this issue? Seeing is believing, but sometimes asking is more important than just seeing, especially when there aren't enough samples.

May 8, 2010 at 3:52 AMLooks like western children are overprotected, hehe. Joking aside, actually there is also dispute over this kind of "harassing" words by parents in Japan (and perhaps in China). However, it's not a matter of child abuse in Japan, but merely a matter of child rearing techniques.

I don't think the tactic always work. There is no panacea in this case.

I'm surprised to learn that the sentence below is not correct English. As far as I know, it's definitely correct, at least, in Japanglish, hehe. Please kindly tell us how to correctly say “你打算在中国待多长时间?” in English. Thanks.

FYI, “丝” (si1) originally means "silken threads", and so "silk cloth" is called “丝绸” (si1chou2) in Chinese. "Silk Road" is “丝绸之路” (si1chou2zhi1lu4).

May 10, 2010 at 7:37 AM据说,按照惯例,担任联合国秘书长的人必须会说英语和法语这两门语言,所以潘基文一定有点法语水平。我很相信,他除了会说“洗手间在哪儿?”以外,肯定还会说“初次见面,请多多关照。顺便问您一下,我可不可以会见昂山素姬(Aung San Suu Kyi)女士?”
