I will call my son first thing in the tomorrow morning to ask him not to say "I picked you up at the foot of a bridge" to his future children, hehe.

May 7, 2010 at 9:40 AM古代时候宦官制度比较普遍,比如说古希腊,罗马,东罗马帝国,古埃及等古代主要国家都有宦官,加上欧洲还有阉伶歌手(castrato).

May 7, 2010 at 8:25 AMWhen I was a child, my parents sometimes (jokingly) told me that I was "picked up" at the foot of a bridge when I was a baby, which is one of pet-stories of Japanese parents. I remember that I said the same thing to my son ..... he was very angry then, hehe.

That's very close to Christmas. I don't know if it's a good thing for mothers who believe in Christianity, hehe. Terima kasih banyak atas bantuan anda!

Come on, you're learning Chinese culture through learning Chinese, aren't you? Nothing is strange with the sentence. When I was a child, my mother sometimes even said to me, “今天开始你不是我家的孩子了!” (From now on, you are not my child anymore!), hehe.

May 6, 2010 at 8:13 AMHi jiangcheng1985
Let me give you a piece of advice. I recommend you get a copy of "Collins Cobuild English Dictionary" 《柯林斯英语词典》. This dictionary shows you word frequency, which is based on corpus, using five-star scale.
I'm afraid that "assiduous" has only one star, and this means it's also a written word and very rarely used, or at least it's not colloquial. I can't even find "sedulous" in the dictionary, probably because it's used less often than "assiduous" is. I think the word "diligent" would be more appropriate for us to use here in the forum.
Word frequency doesn't always work well, but it's definitely helpful for us learners.

I think this is a very good tactics. Looking into the history of Chinese characters is really fun and, fortunately, not so difficult for us non-native Chinese speakers.
