I can’t post a new comment in John’s thread “New Feature of a New Chinesepod” anymore. I get a warning “Comment is empty”. Is it just me?  Or is there the limit to the number of comments posted (or capacity)?  There are  216  comments in total now.

When you itemize sentences, there is always extra space between them. For example,

You are wrong. The correct translations are as follows,

Billiard 台球 (tai2 qiu2)

Pool 游泳池 (you2 yong3 chi2)

Snooker 诈骗 (zha4 pian4)

Of course, I’m just joking, but anyway

I can’t tell the difference among those three games.

Both 垃圾桶 and 垃圾箱 are used here in China, and I don’t know for sure if there is a big difference between them, though the character “桶” gives me the impression that it is a little round-shaped, and “箱” is box-shaped. 百闻不如一见, please look at those Google search results. Anyway, I think they are often interchangeable in Mandarin.

Basketball is not my thing, though my sister was the captain of  篮球队 at high school. It seems that my parents gave all their 运动天赋 genes to my sister. Btw, 面对面 (face-to-face) is also a very convenient phrase, as well as 一对一.

Surprisingly, the character “和” has five different pronunciations in standard Mandarin, such as 和 (he2), 和 (he4), 和 (hu2), 和 (huo2), and 和 (huo4). If you have time, please look them up in a dictionary.

As for 和 (han4) in Taiwan, I hear it was originally a Beijing dialect, and it was introduced to Taiwan by mainlanders and survived there, but interestingly enough the reading later disappeared in Beijing.

我不知道你所在城市的情况怎么样，但是我这个中国东北小城市很少有打乒乓球的地方，至少我在街上还没找到所谓”乒乓球厅”。你觉不觉得很奇怪？我总觉得很难理解这个现象，因为中国就是世界公认的乒乓球王国！

以前我一直以为大多数中国人都喜欢打乒乓球，在中国哪个城市都能很容易看到乒乓球厅。不过现实的中国与我想像中的中国有所不同。更奇怪的是我城市里到处都有台球厅，而且这些台球厅好像总是有很多年轻男女。

在我眼里台球就是一个很有欧美风格的游戏，所以我来中国之前，根本就没想到中国有那么多人爱玩台球。这可能是因为乒乓球对年轻人来讲已经有点过时了，也可以说”太土”，小伙子们觉得打台球比打乒乓球更潇洒。

供你参考，日本地方城市没有像中国那么多的台球厅。我在日本打过很多次乒乓球（虽说我打得太差），可是一次也没有玩过台球。其实我本来对这个游戏并不感兴趣。看起来玩台球要很动脑筋，就是我讨厌台球的原因！

I didn't know the word "对唱" until now, I thought "duet at KTV" was also "重唱" (chong2 chang4), one of the classical music terms. Thanks, I've learned a very important word today!!
