nicklyth, ah, you finally have gotten to the tricky 可 (kě). This one is especially so since it precedes the often seen 是 (shì)。 Yet in this example, it does not mean "but". 可 (kě) can be also used to add emphasis to a sentence, much like we would say "indeed" or "actually". So here: 现在我们可是国内规模最大的工具生产商之一。 (xiànzài wǒmen kě shì guónèi guīmó zuìdà de gōngjù shēngchǎnshāng zhīyī) would translate as: Right now were are indeed one of the largest scale tool manufacturers in the country.

alexej these two are very close in meaning, or rather the same. Yet when you place an adjective in there, it is more natural to use 一个 (yīgè) ex 你是美国人 (nǐ shì měiguó rén) you are an american 你是一个很高的美国人 (nǐ shì yīgè hěn gāo de měiguó rén)you are a tall american this is a newbie lesson, and if that is your level, i wouldn't worry too much about it, as you can be understood either way.

ecooper, on windows, you can go to "View" in the toolbar and scroll down to "character encoding", then you search for chinese. Depending on your set up, you will can see "simplified" and/or "traditional" chinese. Also you may see GB or Unicode chinese. you may have to play around to find the appropiate one for you. also, sometimes you will need the install disk of windows if they are not already installed. If you happen to not have that, then go to NJStar and download the freeware asian font package.

OK folks, everything looks to be up working pretty good, except the pinyin in the PDF's are coming out lowercase, and the fix is not available. Its all Ambers fault.
