in year 1 at 10 weeks or 10 weeks into year one
Thanks for the lesson. All those prepositions... at, in, on, into...
Then 500 in 10 weeks is even more amazing! I guess my gift is in the audial part of language. Is that a proper word?

I'm impressed by amesburygeorge. 500 flashcards in 1 year and 10 weeks. Amazing. I recognise about 40 characters and write 15 :/ My vocab is about 250 words...
But thanks anyway :)

January 24, 2009 at 9:42 AMHi jaimemayo,
9 months ago I didn't know a single word in chinese neither. Nor did I know about tones. Nothing. I don't think you are the only beginner :) 200,000+ registered users and 300,000 people who come to ChinesePod every month...
There is a huge pinyin guide here. Part 7.1: "numerals instead of tone marks". If you want to type pīnyīn you can go here. (On the left side: "type pinyin")
All the sounds in chinese here.
These are some newbie podcasts on tones:
Newbie - The First Tone
Newbie - The Second Tone
Newbie - The Third Tone
Newbie - The Fourth Tone
Newbie - The Neutral Tone
Elementary - Tone Rule: Changes for 'bu'
Elementary - Tone Rule: Two Third Tones

January 23, 2009 at 5:37 PMHi!
I'm going to the restaurant again and I need some new words. I would like to say:
-Do you have a baby chair? (I don't know if it is called a baby chair in english...)
-Can we have a jug of water please? (jug, pitcher or whatever it is called...)
Any help is appreciated :)

I don't know why you can't see it. It's a PDF so I guess you should be able to. But I'm no good with computers...
Actually, in the PDF it is guāi. Not guai1. I typed guai1 because that is simpler to type than guāi :)
