January 10, 2008 at 10:25 AMHa ha ... just remembered. At another small cafe I saw a waitress chase a mouse out of the kitchen and splat it with a high heeled shoe that she had in her hand :-)

January 10, 2008 at 12:18 AM我有一次去过徐家汇的味千拉面。我很清楚地问服务员我想点的菜有没有肉(因为我吃素)。她说一点都没有。那,她把碗端出来之后我用筷子发现一只又大又硬的东西。你们都知道吧:是个有肉的骨。 我估计服务员一直没有懂吃素有什么道理不过她让给我新的一碗面,还有一份饺子。饺子是什么样的呢? 当然是猪肉饺!

January 9, 2008 at 5:57 PMAnother vote for London here! The content could include how Chinese people think it is still enveloped in smog and overrun by pigeons. Also, our Mayor took a British girl band (Girls Aloud) to Shanghai last year and they did a concert with 超级女声 winner 李宇春 as a kind of diplomatic event.

January 3, 2008 at 12:54 PMThanks Casie! According to Google images those look like: 白菜 - Chinese Leaf 包菜 - Cabbage 花菜 - Cauliflower 上海菜 - Pak Choy (always thought pak choy = 白菜) 菠菜 - Spinach 空心菜 - not sure ... looks similar to spinach. I didn't work out what 春菜 was but Google Images revealed that it's clearly slang for something less savoury! :-O Here's a visual summary: http://xs123.xs.to/xs123/08014/collage.jpg

January 3, 2008 at 11:01 AM我同意:满好的课程! 关于白粉,我的一个朋友以前喜欢西可卡因。终于他的心发起展来问题了。我另外的一个医生朋友劝导他以可卡因吸K粉。我呢,什么都不吸! :-) Any corrections on above grammar much appreciated!

January 3, 2008 at 9:43 AMOn the big qing cai debate ... in Shanghai qing cai (青菜) always seemed to be smallish green bulb-shaped things but when I visited Yunnan and asked for qing cai it seemed to be just a word that referred to any green veg including 菠菜,空心菜,青菜,等等。

January 2, 2008 at 10:21 PMHey Ember, AFAIK, 下来 is used for a verb which continues through time but began in the past so the continuation is towards "now". Since the girl is talking about surviving into the future I don't think you'd want 下来 here. The CP dictionary has: 他们的工艺是从以前流传下来的。 as an example. No idea about your other questions! Ed

January 14, 2008 at 4:23 PM我有一时去过爱尔兰旅游,把我的手机在家里留下。我跟室友去那里玩的时候我们房子被冲劲了。 (What's Chinese for burglary, to burgle etc. by the way?) 小偷偷很多贵的东西,包括我的手机。我回家发现以前,他们已经用我的电话帐户花了五百个多英镑。虽然我对O2说明情况,他们还让我付钱。我很苦恼! 现在在英国只有O2会卖iPhone。虽然我觉得iPhone酷得不得了,我连一个便士再也不要给O2!
