I think this and the Startrek lesson were more of a challenge than other recent UI lessons. I liked them for that and the creative content. 加油！

September 8, 2009 at 4:35 AM@nudeaintrude, the first fork is for salad (or whatever the first course is). The waiter takes it away along with the remains of the first course. The second one is for the main course. I would be hard put to argue that it is necessary, but the arrangement seems pretty common at restaurants in the US.

I think the main requirement for eating something with chopsticks is that it comes in managable sized pieces, which would disqualify things like a Texas Roadhouse 32 oz. Steak, unless someone cut it into smaller pieces ahead of time, or the diner has stronger fingers than I do, and liquid things like soup, which presumably explains why spoons are used in Chinese dining. Jello can be a challenge.

September 6, 2009 at 4:25 AMI'm looking forward to the Star Trek lesson. Star Trek first started when I was 5 or 6. At that time, I thought it was too scary to watch, but by the time I was a teenager, I had watched every episode multiple times.
I'm afraid I didn't keep up with the later series though. I had given up watching TV by the time they came out. So, if Captian Kirk, Spock, Bones and Scottie aren't in the lesson, I won't know what you are talking about. :=)

August 30, 2009 at 10:27 PMI think there is some regional variation in the usage of these words, because a colleage in Taiwan told me that 餐厅 was a better word for restaraunt than 饭店， because 饭店 was a little grander and implied you could sleep there as well as eat.
