June 2, 2014 at 8:17 PMYes. I am sometimes wary of being corrected by non professional native speakers. There are some people whose ear is poor and will 'correct' you although they themselves do not speak in a 'correct' way. This applies I think to all nationalities.
Although clearly not infallible, I think that after a while you yourself may be the best judge - so record yourself and be critical - a painful experience I ｈａｖｅ ｆｏｕｎｄ．

My feeling is that Chinese are far more focused on hearing and discriminating vowels whereas Westerners focus on the consonants. What I mean is that difference in consonants sounds is tolerated more by Chinese and difference in vowel sounds is tolerated more by Westerners.
English accents tend to differ in vowel sound, so we are used to hearing (say) graass and grars (if you know what I mean) as the same word, but the zui and zhui seem very different.
Does any of this make sense?

But so nice that Chinesepod doesn't have to be PC (politically correct in the American sense)!
So 举办 is transitive taking a direct object whereas 举行 is intransitive - very helpful.
Small mistake in the pdf vocab: 红牛 is translate as 'red'.
Shouldn't 恐怕这次又得熬夜了 be translated as "...stay up AGAIN..." in the pdf which currently has no word 'again'?
